LAS MERCHANAS CIRCULAR PATH - EL COLMENAR PCR-SA 39

This route runs along paths that introduce us to a mosaic of territories with a high natural, scenic and ethnographic value, and included within the Arribes del Duero Natural Park.

Fields of cultivation, pastures, broom, ash groves and oak and Pyrenean oak forests in different states always dotted by the action of man: abandoned fruit crops, pruning and toppings, endless stone walls, masterfully placed, circular huts made entirely of stone and topped, for the most part, by a layer of earth in which different plant species develop. And in which we can perceive the high human activity that until a few decades ago took place in these places.

With special mention, in the westernmost part of the route we can see from the Malpica and Pocito Manzano viewpoints the Castro de las Merchanas, a walled settlement of Veton origin and built in the 2nd century BC. C., which we can access from a conveniently marked derivation. From this place we can start a visit to the interior of the Castro.
